“I’m bored I am. I’m disinterested, spiritless, tired, antisocial, and can’t think of anything to do that will make me engaged/interested/content. As I go through this, I’m trying to figure out my ‘boredom’, and what I’m finding is unhappiness, frustration, and the looming spectre of my adrenaline addiction. I don’t want to be bored; I want to be running my ass off, sweating, working hard and feeling as if I’m doing a good job, but I can’t just now. Part of my frustration is that somehow I’m immobilized by my lack of motion – I need inertia to keep going, and the force behind my forward motion is stopped – and I hate that. I feel like a kid after school: everything worth doing takes energy and initiative I don’t have. I used to ask my mom “what should I draw?” every day (drawing was my way to cope), and now I have no one to ask “what should I do?”. I know there are a million things to do: my house is a mess, I need to run errands and prepare for the future, I should sit down and look at my bills before bad things happen, I want to revel in being home… but how do I get off my ass and feel good about tackling those projects, when they’re not what I want to be doing? I know. I’m a five-year-old. But I at least I don’t want a human plaything nor am I looking to hookup. I’m just bored, and frustrated, and venting. Thanks for letting me get it out. Any recommendations on getting over this hump?

    Sorry, that was selfish... how about this... Could you find something to do that also relaxes, and allows you to enjoy a more relaxed state? Studying a martial art come to mind - Aikido is a good mix of meditation and action. or may I suggest taking up the electric guitar? Again - action + meditation. Good luck!

    When I get like that the thing that really fixes it fastest is going out with friends (even if I'm a cranky bitch from hell in addition to being bored). Once I do that a few times, the will to do all the other stuff comes back. I'm not much of an adrenaline junkie, though, so little things like that work well for me. You could always ask misnomer about skydiving....

    Some thoughts well, firstly, i think landonewts should really check out for inspiration for that sign, and maybe you (vanquished) could check it out to alleviate the boredom, if only for a few very entertaining seconds. but, seriously, secondly, vanquished.. it sounds like everyone has good tips but.. might you be a tiny bit .. depressed? or maybe a lot depressed? In a clinical sort of way? I say this not as some random stranger on the street hurling the DSM at you, but as someone who's struggled off and on with depression a lot myself. It's a tricky beast, hard to conceptualize sometimes as being outside of yourself, and not due to some personal failing. But it's not (a personal failing!) Don't get me wrong .. could just be a rut.. but if you feel like you've been in the rut for a really long time and are feeling really "flat" all the time, you might look into it.. one interesting book among many that I happened read recently was ed "the noon day demon" by Andrew Solomon. I have some criticisms of the book, but it was still an interesting read and definitely not one of those self-help type books that says you can fix everything with the law of attraction or some positive self talk. well, sorry to go on here. just wanted to chime in , for whatever it's worth.

    Thanks everyone! I got out today, and did chores that otherwise seemed insurmountable (DMV was a biggie), and then spent a few hours at my regular work. I think I may be fighting with the ol' depression too, just a tad, and its compounded by coming from adrenaline-world back into real world, which does a number on you. I'm going to get that book. Have I mentioned how much y'all rock recently?
